Tubeless Tire VS Tubeb Tire

Modenas GT128 are already equipped with tubeless tire . Some other models need to upgrade from tire with tube to tubeless tire with an addition to the price.

I never know about tubeless tire before I bought my GT128. My knowledge about motorcycle are totally zero.

All I know when I buy this motorcycle are the sport rim looks cool. That's all I care.

But then after few reading through Internet, I realized buying this motorcycle with its tubeless tire is a good things.

First, if the tire got a puncture, I can repair it myself. To repair a punctured tire, we just need a simple kit. Everyone including someone without proper knowledge about motorcycle (like me) can get the job done.

This is the kind of tire punctured repair kit.

This kit is easy to find from local store or hardware. Me myself buy it for less then RM5 from Mr.DIY store in Shah Alam. I also find it available at Giant Hypermarket.

Maybe I will make a tutorial about how to use it.But that means we need to wait until my bike get puncture, maybe?

In the mean time you can watch on YouTube on how to use it. Actually it is the same kit the mechanic use to repair punctured on car's tire.

It easy right?

If you are using the tubed tire, it will need a lot of tools and skills to repair the tire. You need to open the nuts and screw, take off the whole tire from the motorcycle. Then take out the tube from inside the tire, patch the hole, put it back(which is not easy) into tire, and put the tire back into motorcycle. You loses so many time and energy doing that.

And don't ask how your hand will look like after that.

 The next benefit from using tubeless tire is, the safety. Normally, when a tube tire run over a sharp object like nails or pieces of glasses on the road, the tire will puncture.

But with tubeless tire, it not that easy to puncture. If your tire hit a nail,for example, and the nail stuck to the tire, it will not puncture.

This is because the nail itself have plug the hole. Me myself did have to nails stuck to the rear tire for a week.I did not remove the nails because my tire did't become flat.

So I let it be at the tire until my friend sit at the back and the tire start to lose the air as it bear the weight of my friend.

This unique characteristic make tubeless tire ideal for long journey. First your tire are not easy to puncture even if you run over a sharp objects.
Secondly, even it did puncture, it is easy to repair it by using simple tools.

So that left me with a conclusion that tubeless tire is better. and it is really suitable for someone who did't know a lot about motorcycle repairs.

Little problem with my Modenas GT128 (Solutions include)

Hello Riders.

I've ride my Modenas GT128 for almost 1 year 6 months. As there are many things that make me love this motorcycle so much, there are also few disadvantages. Here I list few things and lucky us, some of the problem I've already found its solution.

1. GT128 is hard to start the engines at morning.

This problem seems to bother many owners of GT128. I also finds it difficult to start the engines at the early morning or when you leave the motor for a few hours. We need to pull the choke each time to start the engine. After that you must let the motor warm-up for a few minutes before take off. This is kind of wasting time moreover when you are late for works.
If you read the manuals, Modenas has already states to use choke when to start cold engine. This seem to be that Modenas also knows about this problem and can only advise to use the choke every time we want to start cold engine.

Solution: This problem can be solved by using Diesel Engine Oil. I'm not sure why, but from discussion in online forum many user find this to solve their hard to start engines problem.
This Diesel Engine Oil is for vehicles with diesel engine. You can buy this engine oil at nearest gas station.
I prefer brand Rimula Rx3 which can be purchase at Shell Station.


2. Fuel Level indicator not precise

This feature is one of the advantage for GT128  But the problem with this digital indicator is its not show the correct level of fuel in tank. The indicator should show 5 bar if the fuel tank is full and the indicator will blipping if the fuel in the tank are empty.
But what happen is, if the fuel tank is full the indicator show only 4 bar.And the worst part is the indicator already blipping even I just fill the tank.This feature which should ease us to check the tank now has become a thing that make us worry if the fuel already empty.

Solution: Some owner suggest we replace the fuel tank float with Modenas Kris tank float. But I'm not doing it yet. Right now I just set the trip meter everytime I fill the tank. Once the trip meter reach around 165 km, it means the tank almost empty. So I will reset the trip meter again when fill the tank.

3. Short side stand

I notice that if we use the side stand, my GT128 will over tilt to the left side and it will look like its going to fall. This quite annoying especially when you need to park in between other motorcycles. It will consume to much space. Thats why you will see many owner of Modenas GT128 always use the double stand.

Solution: One of friend said that the side stand is normal size but because the GT128 body is quite high. So the side stand cannot reach the ground. So the suggestion is to replace the side stand with Yamaha RXZ side stand or any side stand with longer size.

4. Small space to for basket

The space between the handle and seat is quite small. As for my GT128 I put a medium size basket. Yes, the basket can fit in place but the problem is when you open your seat it will stuck by the basket. So your seat cannot lift up at full angle. This give me a problem whenever to fill the fuel tank. I need to hold the seat by one hand while fill the tank using another hand. If not, the seat will fall back.

Solution: Use a smaller basket but then you cant
put many things in your basket since the capacity is small. I'm thinking to place sort of seat stand but that will need to consult with expert mechanics. So for the time being, I'm just hold the seats by hand.


So thats the problem and the solution i found for my GT128 so far. But I believe every motorcycle has its own pro and cons. Did you has any problem with your motorcycles?

My first accident with my motorcycle GT128

Well, as the title above I've had an accident on the past 22 June 2013. I was very lucky to escape the accident but with few scratch and sprain to my body. It was the first time I ever had an accident, and I was pretty scared.

The thing happened when I was on my way to my home town at Pahang from Shah Alam. I decided to went home that day because a few days later, I'll have final examination. It is more to seek a bless from my parent for the upcoming exam rather than just going home.

I was using the East Coast Highway (LPT) to get to Pahang. The accident happened when I was taking a corner at Gambang Exit. Undeniably, it was my own mistake. Actually, before I arrived at the Exit, I was following a Yamaha LC135. The LC135 seem to know I was following him and he just continuously speeding with me in tail behind. The speedometer reading was at 140 km/h to 150 km/h until  I reach the Exit. I happened to enter the curvy Exit with too much speed. If you have use the Exit Gambang before, you should know the road is very curvy.

It was too late before I realized that I was too fast when entering the Exit. I hit the brake pedal hardly. The rear tyre screeching on the road. The tyre going to the left and right. But the speed was not reduce too much. I could see the divider was getting near to me. And I knew in a few seconds, I was going to hit the road divider. But I did nothing else to stop my motorcycle. Maybe I was too panic on that time.

And BAMMM!!

 I gone straight to the divider. I could felt the impact when my motor hit the highway divider. I could felt my right hand bump on the divider. My eye view was a blur. The world seem to rotating around me. I could't tell which way I'am going.

The impact happened too fast and ended fast too. I don't remember I had my eyes closed, but it seem that when it was finally stop, I just opened my eyes. Now I could felt that I was lying on the road in a prone position.  But a few seconds later, I was so scared when I realized I could't move my right hand. I thought my hand was broke.  Immediately my thought gone dizzy. I was afraid I could't sit on the exam. Then I try to get up. But I could't. It look like I cant move my hand to help me get up. Than, I realized that something heavy was on my body. In fact, my motorcycle was on half of my body. From my waist down to my feet was stuck under the motorcycle.

At that time, a few cars just drove past me. I was so upset as if the drivers did not see me lying on the road. I need help to get up. If I don't move from the spot, I afraid a big vehicle such lorry or bus would ran over me. Thank god, I could see a Gold Exora stop a few meters from me. The driver get out from his car, but he hesitated a moment. I dont know why he did not going straight to me. I waved my left hand to him for help. I try to say HELP but my voice does't seem to come out. At last the man came to me. He help me to stand on my feet.

The man ask me if I'am okay. I said yes but I told him I cant feel my right hand. He told me to raise my hand up. I did. Thank god, I could move my hand. Then it was not broke. The man said, dont worry about my hand. I could't felt the hand because it was numb after such an impact on the divider.

He asked me to calm down. He gestured to my chest that was moving rapidly. 
Yes I was in a shocked that time. Then he ask me if I want a water. 
I nodded. 
He help to push my motor toward his car. I walked and felt the pain all over my body. 
After a few gulp of water, I started to calm down. Now the things come clearer to me. 
I try to start my motorcycle and it work. The man ask me to try if I can ride the motor. 
I tried and the motor still can moved. He told me to ride the motorcycle and he would followed from behind.He also told me to immediately go to clinic at Gambang town. 

So, i get on the motorcycle and continue a few kilometer untill the toll. The man drove beside me and ask in body signal if I'm okay and can continue the ride. I felt to not to burden him anymore, so I noded and showed him a good signal. Then he noded, and continue to his journey.

I was so thankfully to him. I still remember he was wearing a Proton T shirt. Maybe from a auto club. And if I'm not mistaken, his car number plate is WWW 765. I will going to say thank you to him one day if I ever meet him again.

I continued the ride to my home for about 60 km. My speed just 60 km/h. And my motorcycle just dont felt right. I knew my motorcycle has damaged, but I don't have time to check its condition. Furthermore my wound are getting painful. I arrived at home to see my mothers shocked after knew I just have an accident. She worriedly call for my father to look at my wound.

After saw that reaction from her, I just realized I cant have her to felt like that again. Down in my heart I just know next time I ride again, always remember the people I love.

[Review] What do I like about my GT128?

Hello riders.

In this post i will share about my Modenas GT128 performance and what makes me too happy to be the owner of this machine.

Exhaust GT128

The first time I start the engine, I know I just love the sounds from its exhaust. Its not too loud but not too slow like Yamaha Lagenda or Honda Wave. Its some sort of telling that its just a normal motor, but hide the aggressiveness inside.
When i pull the throttle i can feel the torque coming from the engines. As if it ready to start the trip on the road. When the wheel start to rolling, wow..the feeling is really good. The engines smooth and the only things you can hear is the sounds from the exhaust. I notice that this motor is quite high compare to others motor s i've been riding. But the stands are perfectly position so you will feel really comfortable on your seat.

Stability

I try take a corner and its feel so stable. This is because the handle is quite heavy. Its give us a better control when we take any corner. At the end of the handle have two shining balancer. Other than its function to balance the handle,it also give a cool appearance to this motor.


A pair of Break Disc

Two break disc,front and rear, are giving you a more than safety compare to any other motorcycle under 150 cc class. Not even Yamaha FZ150 have two break disc like this GT128. The rear break will give you a tire screeching on the road if you excessively step on it. For those who never use break disc maybe will feel little shock when the break grip on your wheel. But it not for long before you can adapt to it. Maybe your front break will not been use so much.

Tubeless Tire

The tubeless tire are very quality. Some GT128 owners complain that the original tire are too hard and can disturb the stability when taking a corner. Maybe they right,but for me its not a problem since I don't take any corner in high speed. For me the tire hardness is an added value for the quality. Its proved when I ride the motor from my home town to Johor Bahru. At my home, I notice that the tire is having a hole but its too small to see by eyes. What did I do is I just pump the tire, and start the journey to JB on a 300 km trip. And the tire never run flat on the road. I just frequently stop at any gas station to pump the tire.

Digital meter Display

The last superb feature on this motorcycle is its display meter. Its bring the whole new level in moped scene in Malaysia when Modenas introduce the RPM meter on this GT128. You can see the RPM rev when we pull the throttle. But there is more.The specialty of its display panel continue by the digital display. The digital display show the clock, the petrol indicator, trip meter, battery display and also odometer.Such this feature are common in superbike class, but for moped class its very cool and no other moped manufacturer can compete in this .

There's a lot more i could tell you, but i think its enough for now. Every motorcycle has its own specialty.
While maybe Modenas GT128 has its own lack, but the above feature make this machine are cool enough for us to love it.

Why I choose Modenas GT128

Hello to all riders.

Since this is my first post so this is the right time to tell you why I created this blog.
The very first purpose of this blog is I want to share about my story and my journey with my motorcycle, Modenas GT128. I also hope that this blog can be a place to share knowledge about motorcycle,either from me and from visitors to this blog.

OK back to topic. Why I choose to buy this motorcycle? As we all know that since this motorcycle entered the market in 2008, people always compare this motorcycle to Yamaha LC135. Needless to say, the comparison between these two models will always end by conclude Modenas GT128 is not worth it.
I also consider that thing but still end up bought this motorcycle and I satisfied with my choice.

There are few things I consider before I but this motorcycle.

1) I did not want to own a motorcycle that is favour by theft

 I cant imagine if I in the middle of doing something but my mind keep thinking and worrying about my motorcycle. This situation will happen if I own a motorcycle favour by theft. In Malaysia  the top list  motorcycle favour by theft is Yamaha 125, Yamaha RXZ, Yamaha LC135 and Honda EX5.
All those models are always in the list of theft. We all know that the motorcycle  if stolen, will end up being use as race machine or worst being just spare part.
I have seen many owner of these 'Hot' motorcycles. They will have a lot of extra locks for their motorcycles. Even they just going to park the motor for 5 minute to enter a shop,they had to always use extra lock.

But things are different with Modenas GT128  Since the first time this motorcycle being sold, there are no report this motorcycle being stolen  The theft are not interested with this motorcycle. Maybe because they thought that this motor are not suitable for race. And that why I buy this motorcycle.

2) I don't want a common motorcycle

I like to use something that is unique and not everyone have it. The same thing applied when I want to own a motorcycle. I don't want a motor that  can be seen everywhere. I want a motor that is unique and not same with the rest. this GT128 suit the need. At the time I bought this motor, its still rare to see someone ride this motorcycle.

3) I want a motorcycle suitable for long distance journey.

I do a survey for a motorcycle that suits this need. Because when I bought this motor, I work at Johor Bahru and I want to ride the motor back to my home town in Pahang. That will cover a distance about 300 km.
I can opt to just buy a motorcycle with big cc (engine capacity) but I can only afford a motorcycle below RM6000. Many owner claims GT128 is suitable for long journey because it has relatively more weight compare to other motorcycles. This feature will make this motor more stable when on highway. One will not happen to affect by strong wind when a big vehicle such as bus speeding beside you.

4) Full specification of GT128

I also consider the specification offered by this motorcycle. After few research I found that Modenas Gt128
offered a good package for its price range. I bought a facelift version of GT128. A few feature has been added by Modenas that surpass the first models.

1. Tubeless tire - Suitable for long journey because it this type of tire quite hard to puncture. If its happen, it is easy to repair.
2. Front and rear break disc - Other brand in same class usually offer only front breakdisc.
3.Throttle Positioning system (TPS) - To ensure economically fuel consumption
4. Electric starter - Other manufacturer will sell their motorcycles separately for model with electric starter with addition in price. But GT128 produce all models with electric starter with low price.
5. 130cc engine - This is one more unique feature with Modenas GT128. Even though its name state 128 which usually refer to its engine cc, the actual engine capacity is 130cc. No other motorcycle have this engine capacity. 

For all this spec we can buy this motorcycle a relatively cheap price compare to others brand with same specs.

Thats is the reason why i chose to be one of the Modenas GT128 owner. Everybody has their own reasoning because each of us have different needs.
